Unintended Role Models

Everyone at some point in time of their life is a role model, whether they intend to be or not. Knowingly being a role model is great, but inspiring people without realizing it is an even greater accomplishment. This comes with integrity. You must do the right thing whether someone else is observing or not. Most of the time, whether you believe so or not, someone is watching or going to hear about your actions. This is why you must always put your best foot forward.

Like I said, it can happen anytime and anywhere. It can be a little boy throwing a football farther that the rest of the other little boys, being respectful to your parents when around your friends, making a mistake while performing at a talent show and continuing with your selection, or dropping a bad habit you’ve had for years. Being an unintended role model comes from simple acts and gestures. They may not seem like anything big or out of the norm for you, but they touch someone else who is not accustomed to it.

I have a particular experience in which I realized I was an unintended role model. I was unhappy in one of my previous relationships, and it got to the point where it was unbearable. I tried to make and request changes, but in the end I was still not satisfied. Since there was nothing else I could try, the only option I had left was to let it go. At least that was my opinion. Other people think in their own way and take different and further approaches to avoid letting go. I spoke to a friend about my decision and her response was agreeable. About a week later or so, she brought it back up and told me that she was proud of me since it’s something she felt like she couldn’t gather enough courage to do it herself. She also added that she wanted to be like me when she grows up (this was more of a joke since she’s actually older than me). I had no idea that I had that much of an effect on her. Her words touched me and got me thinking. I’m not saying we need to be perfect angels 24/7, but we need to be on our best behavior, especially around others, in case there’s an opportunity to be an unintended role model.

Friends are a source of happiness...

My friends, my friends, my LOVELY friends...
They are a TESTIMONY of the happiness that arises from friendships.

Whatever emotion you are feeling...ExciiiteD, gloomy, chill, or just plain foolish...their presence will take things to a higher level. Just earlier today I was a little out of it. It didn't last long though. Why? Because I talked to my friends. Of course they did their friendly duty and talked some sense into me when I was on the verge of being irrational. Then they reminded me of why I should be happy, which is truly a lot. To put the icing on the cake, they shared their successes which rubbed off on me and elevated my joy.

All that being said, I just want to leave with the following: friends are a source of happiness. They can cheer you up when you're down, make any exciting situation so much more memorable, and give you an extra reason to smile.

In dedication to my friends
